Random Assault on Bartender Leaves Police Baffled
At approximately 10:09 PM, Blaire Valdez was leaving her job bartending at the Cat's Meow. At 145th and Klein's Street, she was dragged into an alleyway and attacked by an unknown, armed, assailant.
The attack was loud and unstructured, attracting the attention of a companion of Valdez's, who was in the area at the time. She entered the alleyway to find the suspect and Valdez, at which point the suspect fled on foot. It is unknown if he attempted to attack Baurer as well. Police were called shortly thereafter by a passerby who does not want to be identified, but "heard screaming and so [he] ran down the street and called for police". Police were unable to capture or track the assailant, who remains at large.
The suspect is described as about six foot, heavyset, with coarse facial hair, which may have been shaved. Valdez did not remember him to be a patron that night, or having any previous connection with him. Sightings of a similar suspect have been seen around the University of New Orleans campus, of which Valdez attends. Do not approach the suspect. If you have any suspicions or concerns, please called the anonymous tip hot line at 520-835-TIPS.
Despite being assaulted by the suspect with brass knuckles and kicked once down with steel-toed boots, Valdez suffered only moderate injury and did not need hospitalization.
