It was roughly 5am and she was feeling pretty good about the night. There had been a Saint’s game on and that meant was she got to wear flat shoes instead of heels. There were usually more customers so she had to run around more then normal-even on weekends. They normally had whoever was on stay on for a few more hours. Normally Nicolette would be out roughly between one and three in the morning. Tonight-this morning-she was out at five. But that didn’t mean she was going home just yet. While she waited for her relief, Nicolette found the bottle of Kahlua and mixed it along with some milk. With her other hand she grabbed the whiskey. Once they settled on to the counter, she reached for a shot glass, a regular glass and tossed some ice in the bigger of the two. Majority Kahlua with a dash of milk as her left hang clung to the whiskey to give herself shots in between the sweeter drink.
Today was one of the days she was going to get trashed.
Nicolette missed her mother. She missed her sister. She missed New York. But those were all in another life. Literally. No one knew about that life. No one knew about her family. So tonight she missed within herself. If she were to utter anything aloud she’d be someplace else. And Nicolette was starting to enjoy New Orleans. The sounds that traveled through the night was vivacious and wonderful. The almost serene bustle of the busy days. And the warmth! While she missed the snow she always hated the cold. In the middle of January she could walk around in a tank top in complete comfort. Back in New York now she’d need a parka with a sweater underneath. Along with thick socks and some boots. Here she could wear open toed shows, pumps or even sandals. It was almost perfect.
Almost being the key word. Nicolette still felt lonely. She was having a hard time making good friends. Yes, she had some acquaintances, a couple drinking slash party friends and just one semi friend. But she had been pushing away from any fort of close friendship. Her marshal appointed therapist said it’s because of all the close people she had to leave behind-her family, friends and the gang-and because she watched her own funeral. Nicolette partially agreed. The gang and what friends she had were never really her friends. No, it was more she didn’t know what it was like to have real friends. One who didn’t use her to turn tricks or sell one form or drug or another.
After a couple sips of the mixed drink she down three shots in a row. That’s when Nicolette spotted one of the bartenders taking this shift. That relieved one. All she needed was the other so she could leave. Not like it was too bad. She could start her drinking here, considering she got half off everything she paid for, and continue at home. She had to walk anyways. Nicolette’s car wasn’t out of the shop for another week. Stupid marshals who picked a stupid car that breaks down. As soon as she was able to, Nicolette would get a newer car though still used. As soon as her eyes caught the second bartender coming in, Nicolette gathered her Kahlua mixture. “Hey! When I come back I want some G-Spots. Not driving. Staying for a bit.” She walked out back while sipping to finish her mix drink in order to clock out.
By the time she came back out it was gone and she could enjoy her favorite shot drink. The whiskey was long gone and a row of five shots were aligned. Ah, she was already feeling better as she reached the third one. Would normally take awhile but since four she had had two beers plus the one she had milked before. Of course she was far from drunk, though on her way, but she could feel her favorite fuzzy friend traveling through her body. Her eyes gathered there were a few people gathering in the Cat’s Meow but mostly people coming off a night shift like her. Many of them were grimy for hard labor shifts or wrinkled from working at the nearby hospital. Nicolette was still in her work clothes though. A corseted tank with jeans that clung just right to her curves. Of course she was wearing a black top with the pearl earrings along with her fleur de lis necklace for the game the night before. Anything that her boss asked after all. Of course it was generally much more skimpy then the other outfits around her but she didn’t care. Nicolette was a bartender and always looking for better tips.

Alex burst through the doors of Cat's Meow, appearing slightly disheveled and flustered after a long night at work. She was relieved to have finally shoved her name badge in her bag and ditch the white coat in her locker. Now she was free to wander in black slacks and a red long-sleeved collared blouse. Her whole night consisted of rushing from patient to patient and dealing with outbursts from relatives and psychiatric patients. On top of that, she was particularly sore after the cage fight from the night before. She downed some Oxycontin before work but towards the end of the night that had started to wear off. Fortunately, she had worn flats to work, otherwise she would have an additional pain to worry about.
Immediately, she rushed to the bathroom as she hadn't been during her whole shift, let alone had the opportunity to eat. After freshening up, she downed a Valium. Sighing, she made her way back towards the bar and took a seat on one of the stools, waiting for the Valium to have some effect.
She smirked for a brief moment as she heard the woman a few seats down mention the word "g-spot" - the most positively amusing thing that had happened all night. Alex frowned, thinking that she should be responsible and not drink so early, but at the same time she felt she deserved a reward for putting up with a crappy night. Why the hell not, my car's at home and I'm off work tomorrow anyway she thought to herself as she dismissed the idea that it might have been too early to drink. Right now she was frustrated and in pain. She could use a drink to help calm the nerves and dull that aching feeling. One of the bartenders approached her, greeted her and asked her how she was. "Not too bad thanks," she lied. "I'll start with a beer and whatever food you're serving at the moment," she said, taking the menu she was offered.
When her beer arrived she downed just over a quarter of the bottle in one swig. She sighed in relief as the flavour started to invade her senses. Alex frowned at her hands, hoping that no one had noticed the faint scratches on her knuckles that she had gotten the night before. She continued to down another beer and then ordered another. A bowl of chips arrived with the second beer. Alex hungrily devoured the bowl of chips and went onto her third beer within minutes. "Don't worry. I'm not driving and I'll call a cab if I can't manage walking home," she reassured the slightly worried bartender serving her.
After her third beer, Alex contemplated moving onto shots, just like the lady a few seats away from her. She stared at the shots as she wondered what they were. When she looked up again the image of the woman caught the corner of her eye. She felt her cheeks go red, though she wasn't sure whether it was the beer mixing with the tablets, or the fact that the woman was in a corseted tank top. She looked down at her bottles nervously, waiting for the flushed feeling within her to die down a little. Stop it, Alex, you pervert. She's hot but that can wait til later Alex thought to herself as she frowned and ran her hands through her hair, attempting not to stare too much. Quietly, she took a deep breath as she tried to think of what to say to the woman so she doesn't come across as creepy. When she felt that she had more or less composed herself - and when she started to feel a lot more relaxed - she approached the woman but maintained her personal space. "Hey, how's it going? Sorry to interrupt you but I couldn't help but notice those shots you're doing. They look interesting and I'm thinking of trying one." Alex said politely and with a smile, keeping her voice quiet to avoid embarrassment for either of them.

P O C K E T S. Sometimes it was a benefit working at the Cat’s Meow. Sometime’s it was also heart wrenching. Tonight while she had her own emotional burdens going on she was ok on the outside. That’s what she always made people think at least. Inside she just wasn’t sure what she felt. Nicolette was kind of ok about that though. If she didn’t feel anything-anger, sadness, hurt-then she wouldn’t have one of her freak outs. A freak out could be a bad thing. But she kept it internal and just shut everything off. Yes, she could fill it with alcohol. That was fine. But someday, someday, Nicolette knew it would always be this way. Where she stared off into a wall while just drinking anything her coworker gave her. One day it would be different.
Today was not that day though.
Nicolette eyed the larger glass and the new row of shots. She wasn’t sure what to start with now. All Nicolette wanted was to get deeply drunk and forget that she even worked tonight into this morning. She wanted to forget all the bad she had done and everything she crappy in her life. Maybe go home with someone to fill that last part of the loneliness. No preference really. Nicolette didn’t consider herself bi; well, not entirely. She had the physical attraction but not the emotional attraction. While she had never been in a relationship, she always imagined herself settling down with a guy. She figured though that left her on the confused post. Or maybe the nymph-o part? Who knew. At least the alcohol was kicking in and she didn’t have to think too hard about it.
Somehow Nicolette had taken down roughly a third of her 5th Element. One of her shots was also missing. ”Shit,” she thought to herself, ”I know what happens when I don’t think about drinking. Ah, screw it.” She probably would have kept bantering with herself if she was interrupted. Well, her internal argument wasn’t interested. Not that she minded. Company was always nice, especially cute company. Nicolette smiled. ”Not bad at all actually.” She turned just enough on her stool to face this new woman. While her head was fuzzy her judgment wasn’t. Yet. Not like it mattered to her. ”Sweetie if you were interrupting I’d let you know. Trust me, you’re not.” A soft smile appeared on her lips-the most genuine one she had in a while. Maybe because it had been awhile since she really talked to anyone outside of the bar or a party.
Looking down at her shots Nicolette tilted her head. Her voice was always soft now-a-days; the only nights they weren’t were when she had to shout over the crowds. “It’s a G-Spot. It has raspberry liqueur and tequila rose mixed together. It’s just sweet enough with a bit of a kick.” With a quick moment of her hand, she pushed a shot towards her. ”If you want more just let me know.” Not like it was a big deal to Nicolette. If she got in a bind, she had a little money saved up. It may be for a pipe dream but it was helpful on the nights she really wanted to just forget things.

Alex half-expected the other woman to be slightly annoyed at being disturbed. After all, most people seemed to respond that way in bars, particularly when they're sitting by themselves and having a few drinks to unwind. She was pleasantly surprised and happy to find the other woman smiling back at her, and as a matter of fact, Alex found her smile rather cute. Her heart started to pick up its pace, despite having taken the Valium earlier.
Although Alex was happy that the woman spoke to her without seeming annoyed, she was nervous about revealing too much of herself to the other woman and scaring her away. This would be likely tonight if she decided to drink more, which she was. Nothing would stop her from drinking away the crappy night she'd just had. Alex was particularly nervous about revealing her addictive sexual nature. That was something Alex wanted to save for later, if things were to go that way.
Alex giggled a little when she found out the name of the mysterious shot. "Really? That sounds awesome, and quite an interesting name too. Sounds like it tastes delicious as well... the shot I mean. Sorry... didn't mean for it to come out that way... don't mind me, I'm just a bit tired today I think." Alex said nervously. She blushed a little as she realised the potential for the other woman to think that she was talking about something else rather than alcohol. Alex hoped she hadn't put the other woman off. After a rough night at work, the last thing she needed was to screw up a potentially pleasant encounter.
To Alex's surprise, the woman pushed one of her shots towards her. "Aww are you sure? Thank you so much! Here, I'll pay you for that one." Alex fumbled through her bag, grabbed some money out of her wallet and pushed it towards the woman. She felt guilty about making someone pay for her drinks. Alex took a sniff of the shot before downing it in one gulp. Immediately her head went fuzzy once the shot had passed beyond her throat. It was a familiar pleasant sort of fuzzy that Alex felt when she was tipsy. She started to feel a lot happier being around this new acquaintance and had forgotten about work and her aching body for now. The flavour sank into her system, further enhancing that pleasant fuzzy feeling. "Wow... that's stuff's amazing! You know what? I want another one. Do you feel like going another round? I'll pay, if you're up for it." Alex pulled enough cash to pay for two shots and kept her eye out for the bartender.
Alex surprised herself with how warm and friendly she was towards the woman. There was something about her which Alex found a sense of comfort in, perhaps because she was the first person she could talk to after a bad night at work, or perhaps Alex just found her attractive since she saw her across the bar.

This would be likely tonight if she decided to drink more, which she was. Nothing would stop her from drinking away the crappy night she'd just had. Alex was particularly nervous about revealing her addictive sexual nature. That was something Alex wanted to save for later, if things were to go that way.
Maybe it was the loneliness. Maybe it was the alcohol flowing through her body. Normally Nicolette would be snippy and block others out. This morning, she kind of wanted the company of someone. Of course she had nothing actually planned out in her mind. Nicolette hadn’t done that in ages. Instead she simply went with the flow of things. Such as now talking to this woman, who seemed a familiar face at the bar. Though she wasn’t entirely sure the name; maybe it’d come back to her at some point though. Or she’d just gall up and ask it.
Nicolette’s brow arched playfully. She had no clue where this was coming from-the flirting and sudden need for company. But it was there and very much up front. ”No need to apologize. I knew what you meant.” There was a wry smile as she drew in a breath and fiddled with one of the empty shot glasses. As a chuckle left her lips, she stared at the empty shot glass in her hand. ”You know I can’t help but wonder how they come up with names for drinks. Such as ‘Sex on a Beach’ and now the ‘G-Spot’.” Her colored lips got an almost confused expression around them as she shrugged. ”Probably just to help people along with the drinking and going home together.” God knows she had seen that happen many times over. God also knew in her other life she often did that but for more sinister reasons. At least she got to start over now; be able to chose what she wanted herself instead of being forced to go home with someone.
Nicolette was on that confused bench. While she dreamed of a life with a man, she occasionally enjoyed the company of a woman. She wouldn’t call herself bi but she also wouldn’t call herself straight. It didn’t even make much sense to her. Nicolette didn’t try to work it out though and just went with what she felt at that moment. At this moment she felt like doing shots with an attractive girl and just seeing where it all went. If it ended here, then fine. If not, well, Nicolette would make decisions as they came along. Right now there wasn’t much to think about. ”Mmm don’t worry about it. I work here. Whatever I don’t get free I get cheap.” Nicolette took a finger to push it back to the woman with a sweet curve of her own lips. Slowly she moved to rest the side of her head comfortably within her left hand, gazing over the woman. Slowly she began to feel nothing, but the good kind of nothing. Though her judgment may be a little fuzzy, she knew everything she was doing. She knew she was flirting with this woman. She knew exactly what she was doing with drinking so much. Nicolette knew what she was doing and didn’t care. That was all; she just didn’t care what people thought about what she was doing. That’s how she should have been spending her life.
”Well if you want to pay for another round then go ahead. We’ll alternate paying then.” She sat straight back up and drew in a deep breath. ”But if we’re going to drink together it’s only proper we know names. I’m Nicolette.” As a bowl of some chips was placed in front of her, Nicolette knew it was a signal from a coworker to put food in her stomach. Nicolette grabbed a couple of the semi-salty tortilla’s and munched on them as inconspicuously as possible. She didn’t want to come off as a pig or anything. Another row of shots were placed in front of the two women.
She was quick to put another glass to her lips and indulge in the bittersweeet drink. ”So I’m a bartender. What’s you’re excuse for being awake instead of sleeping at this time.” Maybe the woman had been out with friends. Or maybe she held a late night job like Nicolette herself did. Either way she was intrigued by this woman who seemed to just come into the Cat’s Meow out of no where.

Alex grinned back at the lady, happy that she seemed to at least be okay with the occasional strange or inappropriate comment that Alex would make whenever she met someone at a social level. She laughed as the other woman made a comment about cocktail names. "That's great! I never thought of it like that. Come think of it I suppose you're right about those drinks making people go home together. Then again, with that much alcohol, everyone is hotter." The drinks had started to kick in and Alex was feeling the buzz to the point where she would drop her professional image as a doctor and just be Alex, which was something that didn't happen in her everyday life very often.
"You sure? If you work here, I'd hate to look like I'm using you to get cheap drinks but if you insist..." Alex stuttered as she gazed back into the woman's eyes. She noticed her cheeks felt a bit flushed but dismissed the sensation, deciding it was perhaps from the alcohol. She went silent until the other woman spoke again and felt a bit embarrassed that she had totally forgotten to introduce herself.
"Nice to meet you, Nicolette. I'm Alex, and I'm so sorry for not introducing myself earlier. And sure, we can alternate if you like." Alex glanced nervously at the chips, thinking of more random conversation starters, yet at the same time thinking about how she should probably eat more. She found Nicolette very attractive even though she had just met her and was trying to suppress her addictive nature so that she wouldn't screw things up. After all, Nicolette had made her smile - something that not even her successful cases at work could do for her tonight.
Alex downed the shot as Nicolette asked her what she did, indulging in the flavour. She thought it would be fair enough to tell Nicolette what she did for a living. After all, Nicolette had told Alex what she did. Despite this, Alex had to be subtle. The last thing she wanted was to attract excessive unwanted attention. As for her cage-fighting background, that would have to wait for another time, that is if they ever managed to get that close to each other. Alex had never revealed to anyone that she did both. People either knew her as a cage fighter or a doctor. Perhaps her ex knew her to be both to some degree, but that was a life that was long over, even though Alex desperately longed for that sort of attachment.
Once she had downed the shot, she glanced around quickly and shuffled closer to Nicolette. "I'm a doctor. I just finished night shift and decided to come here after work. Sorry if this is weird that I'm sitting this close, I just don't want the whole world to know about what I do." she said quietly, not wanting to make a scene or attract attention. Although Alex was starting to feel the buzz, she knew well enough not to attract attention to her medical background, otherwise people would never leave her alone. She learnt her lesson from last time where she had to change her personal cell phone number cos she was getting nonstop phone calls. That was one of her many results from excessive alcohol.
Alex backed away a little and then resumed talking in her normal voice. "So... what's your excuse for being awake?" Alex returned the question and then debated the possibility of another shot. She was surprised, yet happy that Nicolette was still talking to her. For some reason, there was something about Nicolette that Alex admired, whether it be her sweet looks or her charming personality.

Confident, knew what she was doing and on top of her game. Now she was going along with the hits but still knew what she was doing, saying-as well as what the other woman was saying. ”I think it’s first the illusion of the name, then the alcohol making people appear hotter. Or maybe the alcohol gives them reason to leave with someone who is already attractive to them.” Reaching for the larger glass she sipped at it before she allowed a shrug to come to her shoulders. ”I personally think it’s the excuse of alcohol.” Despite the buzz, she was having fun. Nicolette knew all her actions and didn’t mind where things were going at all.
Nicolette waved her hand in protest as she set her glass down. ”Do not worry about it at all. I sleep a lot during the day so the one thing I get to splurge on is drinks.” Her smile formed which was a little more confident then in the beginning. She was starting to feel more at ease. Whatever the reason, she didn’t care. This was the best human connection she had formed since being placed in New Orleans. Even if it wasn’t meaningful or lasting, she liked this connection and where it was leading to. This connection didn’t have to be romantic, epic or even something deep. Just connecting with someone felt liking she was actually establishing herself in Louisiana.
Nicolette wasn’t looking for friendship, romance or any sort of deep relationship. Her last relationships were all severed. She had to fake her death, never to speak to any of them again. Why continue to seek out connections when risking having to sever them. Nicolette had no clue how long she’d have to live her life here. If they were going to make her go back to New York and testify, who knew how things would unfold. Her family would have to go to court; they would see her and realize everything was a front. Deep down, Nicolette knew she could never be Lilian again. She could never return to her family and live her old life. Deep down she knew that, but she didn’t really want to accept that. Maybe one day she’d find that one person who made her want to connection with people, settle roots in New Orleans and be alright with coming back after the trial. It’d be hard either way coming back after seeing her mother and sister. Her heart would probably break in having to come back, but a little less the second time around. She could tell them that she loved them and reassure them that she was happy so not to worry-to move on. Right now, in this moment, Nicolette honestly could not tell them that. She could even tell herself that.
Even if those issues weren’t forefront in her mind every hour of the day, they were forefront in her heart. Most of the time. Now it seemed to betray her for one reason or another. Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was because of the attractive woman. Either way, Nicolette didn’t mind the conversation and playful bantering. ”It’s alright. Adds a bit of mystery at first. We can peel back more layers as we go along. Or don’t.” There was a slight chuckle as a new line was placed before her. Nicolette decided to pause on the drinks for a few moments to keep herself in this very fun and exciting moment in time. Something completely far between in this new life of hers.
Never-the-less she grabbed a shot and ran her finger around the rim thoughtfully. Her brows pulled together as a slightly amused and confused laugh mixed together. ”Night shifts must be incredibly exciting. Especially cause you get all the drunks from here straight to your doorstep.” Doctors, cops and lawyers. The rules of the street were to avoid telling too much to them. If you didn’t get the right doctor-who was paid off y some of her former friends-they asked too many questions and then called the cops. The cops were always itching to find a way to stop what they were doing. And lawyers were manipulative to try and break up the trust. Nicolette had broken the rules and spoke to two of those three in hopes of making her life better but didn’t mean she fully trusted them. So hearing she was talking to a doctor obviously made her more alert. But at the same time the calming effect of talking to Alexandra.
Grabbing a couple chips to try filling her stomach, Nicolette sighed. ”Well all the day shifts were taken because they serve fuller meals and mothers have those shifts. And since I’m naturally a night person, I opted for the later shifts.” She finally decided to let that, what, eleventh?, shot go down. After a while she stopped tasting the alcohol entirely. ”Besides it more fun. After dark people tend to show their true selves. Their adulterous side, their flirty side, their selfish side, their drunk side...their fun side.” Somehow it was fun talking to this woman. She could let herself go a little. ”It’s fun working nights. I’m sure you can relate even a little.” The night gave a completely different insight into life. Besides, if she didn’t work nights she wouldn’t meet others who worked nights-like Alexandra-and enjoy those early morning with them. She definitely would not be enjoying herself with Alexandra if she didn’t work nights, didn’t stay to drink and didn’t indulge in the conversation.

Alex eyed the bowl of chips, thinking that perhaps she should eat more after topping up that Valium with a significant amount of alcohol. "That's one of the reasons people drink - so they can find more people attractive and pick up on a night out. However... I'm sure there are some people that'll never be attractive no matter how much you drink." Alex eyed the shot and decided to wait a while before downing it. She thought about telling Nicolette that she was attractive even before the Valium and alcohol entered her system, but refrained from doing so, at least for now. Alex felt the warm tingly feeling of alcohol surge throughout her system, but she still had some of her inhibitions. Instead she ordered a glass of water, which she then drank reasonably quick. "I better have some of these too if I plan on getting wasted," she said with a chuckle.
Alex focused her attention fully on Nicolette as she spoke, hoping that her cheeks weren't starting to turn bright red. The last thing she wanted was to reveal too much of her emotional side to Nicolette at this point, and it seemed to Alex that Nicolette seemed happy enough just talking about general topics. Perhaps they would start to get close towards the end of the night, that is what Alex would have hoped since there was something attractive about her. But if things didn't progress Alex wouldn't be too worried - after all she was used to stand-still relationships that would only go up to a certain point. She had left her old life back in Chicago, but really hadn't moved on from there. Alex still longed for certain relationships to still exist in her life, but there were others that she was more than happy to forget.
"Not all drunk people are fun, actually. For someone to be drunk and presenting to E.R. they usually would've had to drink so much alcohol that they don't have absolutely no control. It gets messy if they're violent. Actually, it's messy having to pump people's stomach too. Not my favourite job but has to be done... oh sorry, I shouldn't talk about that you're eating. All I'll say is I hope you never have to go through it." Once again, Alex kept her voice as low as she could to avoid attention. She was a bit embarrassed that perhaps she had said too much and put Nicolette off her meal. Sometimes she forgets that not everyone is a doctor or a nurse, which means that sometimes she'll talk about things that aren't good with meals. Alex downed the shot as Nicolette downed hers. "Nights are definitely more eventful in E.R. and very fast-paced. You either transfer them if they need it or discharge them. Having said that, there's less of us on at night so it's very busy. But hey, it's a good adrenaline rush. We usually rotate nights though and I come here, on and off, after my shift. Depends how crap my night has been... like tonight" Alex frowned and then chased the shot with another glass of water, the last thing she needed is to be way too drunk to walk home and she was already feeling rather drunk by this stage. She hoped that she wasn't revealing too much of herself to Nicolette, but at the same time she was so easy to talk to. Alex was unsure whether it was the alcohol making her talk about herself more than usual on a first encounter, or whether Nicolette was just a genuinely nice, easy-going person. She just wanted to tell Nicolette more, but something inside her just held her back - she didn't want to give a part herself to someone, whether it be as a good friend or a lover, just to be left alone.
She quickly looked away for a brief moment, not wanting Nicolette to see the sad expression on her face. The thought of being left alone at the end of the night raced through her mind. Alex had a rough night at work, and she has had many tough days like this without having anyone to go home to. Now that she felt that she had connected with someone, it would be nice to not go home alone for once. She glanced at the shot menu, debating whether to try something else, before focusing her attention back on Nicolette. "So... what are things like around here at night? Cos right now it looks pretty nice and laid back, which is why I like coming here after night shift. By the way, I hope your shift wasn't as bad as mine."

P O C K E T S. As Nicolette noticed her companions look at the bowl of food, Nicolette decided to slow down on the chips. Of course she couldn’t know for sure what the brunette was thinking but didn’t want to give off any bad impression. She wanted to keep this going on for a bit. Whatever this…fun?…was Nicolette liked it. She wasn’t going to ruin it at this moment in time. If something changed then she’d stuff her face and book it. Or reverse that. Or whatever. Not like she was in the right mind to make any sudden decisions on leaving her bar stool.
A sly smirk formed as she chuckled. Alexandra was just as clever with the come backs. That made this with her so much more fun. ”I think it also depends on the person. I think anyone in their right mind would just see the sexy people and go for it. It’s the desperate ones that see what they want after they have a few to drink. Then if they can’t get someone decent then they go with whoever they think is attractive.” And now Nicolette was rambling though she hoped the rambling made at least a little bit of sense. That was the sign that she had drank just a bit much as she skipped from the fuzzy feeling to being borderline drunk slash intoxicated. The only thing she could really hope for was that she wasn’t coming off as trashy at all.
There as a soft laugh at the mention of getting wasted. ”Drink up then. I think you have some catching up to do then. I think I’m already there.” She motioned to get the same drink, some water, to pace herself a little more. Wasn’t forefront on her mind previously but now the glass made her realize what she normally told other patrons when they sat in the same spot she was currently in. But that was a bartenders life; they dispensed useless advice, listened to the ramblings of regulars and that was the extent of any relationships she had. They were good too. She got to hear the amusing and ridiculous side of peoples lives but was able to keep all her own secrets to herself. It was at least something for now. Kept the human side of her intact while she figured out this new life.
To Nicolette it honestly didn’t seem like these past few months were enough at all. She still hadn’t made much of anyone for friends outside of work and the Marshalls-well sort of. There had been one person she thought she had slept with but wasn’t even sure about that. All she knew was she woe up in some motel with a guy half dressed then she left. That had to count for something. As far as she knew, she hadn’t crossed the guy again, even if she remembered him. Despite the ache to have people in her life, she was just as fine going on until she figured out how to get with this life. She still had the streets in her blood. She still felt the need to stand her ground at any random moment in time. Whenever a barroom brawl broke out, she was one of the first people itching to break up the fight-be it between two guys or two chicks-because that’s what she knows. Just like when someone comes in here strung out but ready to drink, she waters the drink down just enough to where they can’t notice and keep an eye on them. After being made to deal she could clearly tell when someone was strung on something. Same when a girl tries to turn tricks in here. There are tell tale signs and mannerisms they give off that hint they’re a hooker. They’re the same mannerisms that Nicolette used to give off in another life.
For the moment she paused with the sweet alcohol beverages as she munched as delicately as possible at the chips. ”Sounds like a um blast I guess?” Through closed lips she laughed with the movement of her head. ”I guess here it’s always more interesting because we hear what they say and do. But the violent ones are annoying. Guess that’s also why I never became a doctor. I’d be the doctor swinging right back with a violent drunk. Hence why I fit in as a bartender.” Nicolette paused as drew random shapes along the bar and scrunched her nose up. The idea of stomach pumping didn’t ruin her appetite-is she even had one-but was still gross. While she herself never had it done, one of the other Kamodo’s had the procedure done, which completely sucked for him. Despite the suck factor, no one let him live it down after that. ”Is the ER really always that exciting. I mean, I know this is New Orleans but do you ever have a boring night where she can just shoot the shit with other people working?” It’s why Nicolette loved working the days because she and the rest of the staff on that time had fun. While working they could play what music they wanted and dance around. It’s where she got to have fun singing even if she was not good at all.
Now that she had taken a small break, Nicolette was back in her line of the glass she had been circling earlier. While she could see the thrill of it, seeing people die had to be so hard for a doctor. Once Nicolette had seen the more serious side of the street life, she knew she had to bolt it. Killing people was not what she had signed up for-killing innocent children who did nothing wrong but being in the wrong place at the wrong time. That was just what she saw. Obviously the police and doctors saw them really pass away. It was the reason Nicolette moved on from that scene.
Which was good because whatever this relationship was hold promise. Though Nicolette refused to admit it, she need friends, maybe more. But with women she never had had a love relationship, just something more physical. This was the most flowing conversation she had had in ages that wasn’t related to cocaine or her appointments. Frankly, it was nice to Nicolette; made her feel like a normal human being for the first time in a long time. But now that the conversation turns back to her it was hard to gain her footing. For so long she hadn’t talked about herself-even if it was just work-without something coming up about the gang. ”Um depends. Last night was game night so it was insane. Also why I’m decked out in Saint’s colors.” Game day required black, white and gold dressing. Right now she couldn’t afford some sort of jersey that was still somewhat sexy for her job, so she simply singed it. ”Aside form game days the weeks are rather calm. The weekends are hectic and kind of annoying. If it’s not someone trying to pinch your ass there’s a fight breaking out or someone having sex in the bathrooms.” Quite tame compared to what she was used to.
”Let’s see. Lamest shift of the night has to down a round of shots chosen by the winner. Plus, down how ever many winner wishes them to.” There was a playful wink, though Nicolette knew she would probably lost either way. Nicolette turned so her full body faced Alexandra and leaned in just a little. ”Saints game was a close one tonight. Not only did the normal fight broke off of any tourist who liked the other band, but a chair got thrown into one of our flat screens. It’s out back right now. When the manager saw, needless to say a screw loosened. He actually got into a fight with the ones who broke it. Cops were called by a patron for once.” With a soft smile she pointed flirtatiously at Alexandra. ”Your turn.”

Alex stared at the food, debating the thought of ordering more food. In her logical mind (whatever was left of it), food would be a good idea because surely her companion would most likely keep her drinking for quite some time. "Don't mind me staring. I'm just thinking I probably should eat more..." Alex said as she continued to eye the food.
"You know I think you're right about that. I guess alcohol gives you the balls to act upon someone attractive, that's about it. As for noticing an attractive person, you don't necessarily have to be drunk to do that, like you mentioned." Alex attempted to make some form of intelligent conversation but as the drinks kept rolling she started to find this very difficult.
Alex nodded her head at her drinking companion's request and downed another drink. She then stole a chip from the bowl and munched on it hungrily. "Sorry, I haven't eaten much all day. We might need more of these I think..." Alex suggested as she pinched another chip, feeling a little bit silly. "ER is always busy whether you work during the day or at night. You'll be amazed the sorts of things people do to themselves at strange hours. At night you usually get little old people that fall over, and then late at night that's when you get all the fun stuff - people who get bashed, drunk people, drug overdoses, gun shot wounds and stabbings sometimes. Even though it's a night shift it's never boring. There's always something to keep you running around even at night. I'd take a swing at the violent ones myself if it were legal but unfortunately I could be held for assault charges." Alex laughed lamely at herself and then realised that she was rambling. She paused for a moment and then ordered another drink. She grinned in amusement when Nicolette mentioned people having sex in the bathroom or harassing the bartenders. "You're good... I would hate it if someone pinched my ass and actually that happens in ER too, come think of it. Some people who come in are completely high or something and they do all sorts of things. And yes, I've gotten my ass pinched by one of them and I wasn't impressed. I think one time, during one of THOSE shifts, I was just a tad grumpy and I lectured the guy about how inappropriate that behaviour was and then handballed that case to a male doctor. If I were out on the streets by that time I would've knocked him out I think."
Alex downed another drink and then paused for a few moments, trying to talk a little less. The alcohol had clearly started to sink in and she was talking a lot more than she probably should. She usually felt a bit guilty for being this intoxicated for people because that's the time when she would talk about all the random everyday things that she would never dream of talking about at work. She would also say exactly what was on her mind - another thing she would never do at work or around colleagues. Had it been okay to talk freely around her colleagues and at work she would possibly have quite a few people who wouldn't be happy with her behaviour. But there was something different about Nicolette - she seemed quite happy to go along with the conversation, even though Alex could be very blunt at times when drunk. Wherever this was going, Alex would be happy to keep in touch with Nicolette after tonight.
Alex listened to her companion's little cheeky dare and chuckled. "Okay, you're on but good luck with carrying me home if I lose," she joked. Alex listened intently to Nicolette's story while trying not to stare down her chest as she leaned closer. As she listened she thought that she might be right about having to be carried home as she learnt about her companion's horror night shift. "Oh, lord.. that really sucks! I don't blame your manager for wanting to have a go at them. I mean I'd be pissed if someone broke my flat screen. Okay my horror story for the night..." Alex paused, took a gulp from the glass of water placed in front of her and reflected on the horrible shift she had just had at work.
"We had a guy come in tonight who was drunk and high off speed. A couple of his buddies brought him in. So he was fine in the waiting room with his buddies there keeping him occupied. Then he came into the rooms to see me. His buddies came in with him and I started assessing his health state and asking him questions. There were things he was holding back from telling me, possibly because he might have been a bit nervous with his friends around. I asked his friends to step outside for a bit, reassured them that I'd be okay since he seemed nice enough. As soon as they were out of the room he wanted me for sexual favours. When I told him that I pretty much couldn't help him with that he shoved all the stuff off my desk, and he was pretty damn strong too, so immediately I stood up and fumbled around the room to find the duress button. He yelled abuse at me and hit me, sending me to the ground. I managed to scramble up, hit the duress button and escape the room. Fortunately his friends were closeby and were able to hold him back as he tried to chase me. Then security came and we dealt with it from there."
Alex grimaced as she rubbed off a bit of the make up she had applied earlier in the bathroom, to reveal a cut and graze towards the corner of her lip. “It was bleeding and stinging a bit earlier but it feels better now”

I 'V E. B E E N. C O L L E C T I N G. Y O U R. W O R D S. L I K E. P R A Y E R S. I N. M Y. P O C K E T S. Nicolette didn’t really have any sort of eating schedule do to her odd hours. If she even ate in the morning it was something quick like chips from work, a donut through a drive through or just whatever was in her fridge at the apartment. Despite that, she couldn’t help but chuckled as her hair shook with a shake of her head. With the tips of her fingers she pushed the small bowl towards her companion. ]”Suppose you should then. Otherwise I may just get you totally waster, take you to my place and take advantage of you.” Ah and now her flirty side began to come out in full force. That meant the liquor was finally full through her veins and helping her to loosen up. She hadn’t had this much fun or had been this open since arriving in New Orleans.
All the theories about liquor and picking up people were good ones. Definitely different then what Nicolette used to do to pick people up. Before it depended on the setting. Obviously if you got a call you had to wear something along the lines of what the “client” wanted. If you went into a bar with a restaurant atmosphere you dressed a little classier; maybe some nice dark jeans with a satin low cut top and maybe a nice crop sweater over it and some heels. Then just a “grungier” bar such as the one she now worked at anything goes. Though the movies idea of leopard print with a mini skirt with a slit was completely wrong. Those were the ones who wanted to get caught. Ina actuality you tried to wear “normal” clothing with a plunging neckline or a tighter fitting skirt that was either short or had a slit-but never both. If you gave yourself away too much then you were guaranteed to get caught and the point of the Kamodos was not to get caught.
Nicolette watched as the bowl was filled up as well as a couple more brought over. Ah, her coworkers knew her drinking habits so well. Thank God for that or else she might have to go back there to get something herself. ]”They have goods like mozzarella sticks and jalapeno poppers.” That was just a quick passing thought though. Quickly conversation turned right back to the work they did. Clearly Alexandra’s line was much more interesting even if she couldn’t fight back with the idiots that came her way. Bar’s were usually the same every night with the fighting and catching people in the bathrooms; very little changed. While the ER you saw something new each night even if it was slightly different.
There was a bored shrug to her shoulders as her nose wrinkled in torn thoughts. ]”Well I guess it depends. We can’t knock anyone out but we can use whatever force we must to take care of everyone. If someone gets knocked out or seriously injured we’re f*ucked.” Her eye gazed at her coworker then. Of course they had seen her break up fights but had no clue how much she could really hold of her own ground. ]”But I agree with you on the part of meeting them on the streets. If anyone tried that when off duty then neither of us can really be faulted at all.” Bemusement played off her lips at the thought of that. Quickly there was the thought of her own possible bathroom adventures but of course she had to be careful not to lose her job. Boy would the marshals really chew out her ass after working so hard to get her this job. Though they had no control on her life if she left here and did things in her own home.
]”Well I guess we’ll have to go back to my place before we get too drunk and finish this party there.” Ok now Nicolette had really loosened up and was willing for any kind of fun that may or may not happen. If nothing happened well she could always go home and take care of herself like she more then often did. Just...having a companion to enjoy it with was so much more fun no matter who they were. Well, as long as they didn’t want her to be part of some rape fantasy, scat or anything else weird like that. Then she kicked them out pretty damn fast. She had enough weird stuff when she had no choice but to do whatever they wanted.
]”I still just have a regular old television so I really don’t get the hype so much. Maybe if I got one then I’d understand more.” Nicolette didn’t have the luxury to buy stuff like that. Her apartment came equipped with most of her furniture. Of course it was very drab, but her skills in upholstery her grandmother had showed her helped a lot. She was able to redo all her chairs, the couch, make her own curtains...then the rest of the stuff she picked up on sale, from thrift and antique shops as well as yard sales. It actually turned out a lot nicer then she thought. The big things she had to obviously buy was a new stove and microwave as soon as she had enough money. The old ones were so bad that the slightest grease that spilt on the burners caused a fire. Of course the marshals were able to help out but Nicolette had to at least front half. Now she was nearly complete off their aide which was more then good.
The thought of a big screen and her pathetic lame night-at least compared to the doctor’s. She saw fights all the time but nothing like being asked for sexual favors. Sure she and other girls got asked to go home all the time but nothing as outright as sexual favors. ]”Alright you win for sure. What’s my poison?” Nicolette nodded at one of the day shifters to let them know they’d be ready for more soon. Swiftly she moved to gaze at Alexandra to examine her up and down. ]”Well at least I can see what her saw.” With another upturn at the corners of her lips. ]”So is her the worst guy you’ve ever had or have there been even worse?”

Alex chuckled at Nicolette's flirtatious comment. Her cheeks lit up to the same colour as her top as she nibbled on a few chips and gazed down at her drink. "You know what? I think I'd like that." Alex took a swig of her drink to calm herself a little. She felt that sex drive of hers getting hyped up once again, just like it usually would when she was with a gorgeous lady. She wanted to run her free hand up Nicolette's leg but knowing that she worked there she had to hold back for the meantime. Whether that was still possible depended on how much more alcohol Alex would decide to consume. Instead she continued to pick on the food that was brought out in front of them.
"I think this should be enough food for the meantime." Alex said as she continued pinching a few chips here and there. "That's why we leave it to security to deal with aggressive people in the hospital. For us health professionals they can sue us for assault. If it were me on the streets off duty I wouldn't think twice about defending myself." Alex stopped short of revealing her cage fighting 'profession', especially because she has had to run from the cops a few times because of it. She questioned why she just won't quit this incredibly risky aspect of her life, but at the same time life would be boring for her without the risk, even if working in ER already presented some danger to her safety.
"That sounds like a great idea. I don't want you getting into trouble 'cos of me. I live walking distance from here if that's any easier, and I live alone. I have alcohol at home somewhere too if we want to continue drinking, even if it's not as flashy as the cocktails here. I don't mind paying for a cab if it's easier 'cos I don't know how good we'll be on our feet now." The Valium Alex took earlier had started to gradually lose its effect, but with the way things were now she didn't think she would need another one later. Especially if she's going home with someone. At least she would have someone to keep her sane for that little bit longer. She secretly hoped that she didn't have anything lying around at home that looked suspicious, like a few tablets and things. But it didn't matter to Alex whether Nicolette saw them or not. After all she was used to friends shying away from her when they found out what she was really like. What they never seemed to understand was that all Alex probably really needed was that strong sense of companionship she's craved for since her parents died, then she eventually wouldn't need the pills. It's been a long battle trying to come off the pills, but it was one she always lost just as she looked like she was conquering her addiction. Even though she liked the effects the things had on her she also knew they had control over her life. Now that she is financially stable with her own career she wanted to take back that control over her own life, but it has always been such a difficult journey.
Alex grinned as she pondered which drink to choose. She then recalled the good memories of that time she did three jager bombs in one night and how. It was at a work Christmas party and it ended up with her going at it all night with one of the nurses she took home with her. "What about... a jager bomb? I guess I can do one with you if you want. For some reason it's more fun when you do it with someone." Alex suggested as she searched for a bartender to order the drink but stopped searching to respond to Nicolette's question. "Nah he's not the worst. I've had a patient's family member break my nose once. I was off work for a week." Alex smiled as she followed Nicolette's eyes examining her body. She looked around the bar nervously to make sure that no one was watching them. When she was confident that no one really cared what they were doing she shuffled closer. She took Nicolette's hand in hers and stroked it affectionately as she examined her lips. Alex blushed and looked around quickly. Nicolette was so adorable that Alex just wanted to kiss her, but at the same time she didn't want to attract any attention. Then again, Alex couldn't guarantee that she would be able to continue suppressing her desire to do things with Nicolette as the alcohol continued to build up in her system. Perhaps if she played it carefully she could get away with getting physically close to Nicolette. It would involve being completely sure that no one was paying attention before making a move. Alex decided this was doable and proceeded to make her move. There was no way Alex was willing to let Nicolette go with her desires unsatisfied unsatisfied, especially after Nicolette had been acting rather suggestive. "So... I was wondering... if you wanted to continue this party at home after that jager bomb..." Alex suggested as she gave Nicolette's arm a playful tug. She looked around the bar once again to see if anyone was watching. When the bartenders had gone to the other side of the bar, and the other customers were dispersed far away with their backs turned to them, Alex leaned in closer and spoke quietly. "...because I think we'll be less tense in a private spot and I think we both need a bit of rest and privacy after these crappy shifts we just had. Besides I'd be an idiot for not showing how much I appreciate chatting to a beautiful girl such as yourself." With her other hand, Alex brushed Nicolette's hair back and gently kissed her on the cheek. She pulled back quickly and gazed into Nicolette's eyes, hoping that she wouldn't be disgusted or offended.
